NorthQA Christmas Party 2025: A Pause, A Celebration, A Team
December tends to be a month for looking back at the challenges, the lessons, and the people who made the year worth it. For NorthQA this year's Christmas party was exactly that. It was a pause from deadlines and bug reports and a chance to just be a team for a day.
Last December 20 our team of eight gathered at a hut-style venue in Malasag G Resort, Cagayan de Oro City. Fresh air and a quiet view made it the right place to celebrate a year we both survived and won.

A Simple Venue, Meaningful Moments
The venue was simple but the day was anything but ordinary. We swam, shared drinks, and spent hours talking about life instead of work. Conversations came easily and time felt slower in the best way.
One highlight was welcoming our newest team member. It didn't feel like an introduction so much as inclusion. Everyone was comfortable, everyone was heard, and titles stopped mattering for an afternoon.
Laughter That Brought Us Closer
The most unforgettable part of the day was a game that was simple in theory and pure chaos in practice. You had to guess the title of a song, except the singer could only perform the lyrics as a dog's bark or a cat's meow.
What followed was uncontrollable laughter.
When it was time to guess Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me," our brains completely short-circuited. Instead of hearing the lyrics as they were meant to be sung, all we could process was "meow meow meow." One of our coworkers tried to guess while the "singer" dramatically meowed their way through:
"If you could see that I'm the one who understands you
Been here all along, so why can't you see?
Meow meow meow meow."
It made absolutely no sense and that is exactly why it worked. Watching teammates try to carry melody and emotion using nothing but animal noises was ridiculous. For a while nobody was a tester or an analyst. We were just people laughing until our sides hurt.
The Unexpected Fun at the Table
As if the games weren't enough, another funny moment happened when we realized we had forgotten a very important thing: a knife.
With a lechon waiting to be served and no knife in sight, we started throwing out the silliest ideas. "Let's just use our hands and rip it apart!" someone shouted. "Or maybe a plate?" another suggested, until we realized we didn't even have a hard plate.
Then the ideas got even wilder. Someone pointed to the ropes we had for the wine boxes and said, "Why not try cutting it with this?" The thought of all of us trying to cut lechon with a rope had everyone laughing so hard.
Finally, we decided someone had to ask for a knife. Of course, we jokingly chose our "sacrifice" team member, who bravely went to borrow one. When they came back with it, it felt like a small victory worth celebrating.
The Journey Was Part of the Fun
Even the drive became a memory. We got stuck in traffic and nobody got frustrated, mostly because one coworker was weaving through the roads with total confidence while the rest of us watched in a mix of awe and mild alarm.
It was a small reminder that sometimes, the most memorable moments are found not at the destination, but along the way.
The Late Entrance
Our very own founder was running late. Before this, we had made a playful agreement: anyone arriving late had to dance. So, naturally, we were calling, teasing, and imagining the dance moves he would be doing.
When he finally arrived he was not empty-handed. He walked in with a bowl of hot soup, nursing a hangover. First the soup to recover and then a plan to drink anyway. Watching him shuffle in with the bowl still in hand, rushed and clearly suffering, set the whole table off again. It was a small moment but it captured this team perfectly.
Light Work Talk, Heavy Reflection
Being a QA team, work didn't stay away completely. We talked about the year's problems: bugs that tested our patience, systems that made no logical sense, and moments that pushed us past our comfort zones.
But this time, those stories came with laughter instead of stress.
We laughed at things that used to frustrate us and talked through issues that had felt overwhelming at the time. Growth rarely feels like progress while it is happening. Looking back together makes the distance obvious.

More Than Just a Christmas Party
This gathering was more than a celebration. It was a reminder.
A reminder that behind every test case is a human effort.
Behind every resolved issue is collaboration.
And behind every successful project is a team that chooses to show up not just for the work, but for each other.
Productivity usually gets measured in output. This party was a reminder that connection counts too, and that time spent laughing and listening strengthens everything else we build.
We carry these moments into the new year: the silly meows, the lechon chaos, the rope ideas, the soup story, the traffic, and the quiet realization that none of us is walking this path alone.
NorthQA is a small team. The bond we share is what makes the work worth doing.
Here's to more growth, more laughter, and more moments that remind us why we do this.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from NorthQA.
